It has a very good location, it's easy to find and you can park (payparking)on the streets around very easy.
With plenty of space inside to social distance and extremely nice staff, its pretty sure you will have a good experience.
Its clean, has good food and good service. I loved it

Excellent sushi and great service. Fairly priced for the quality and portions. Have been here a few times and had a good meal every time. They do tempura perfectly too (normally I'm not a fan, either).

Highend Sushi , attentive service , friendly staff, clean cooking area, and high quality ingredients. VIP chopsticks for return customers.

I Looooooove 💙 Sushi and have very High Expectations of them.
Kabuku's sushi was different as they used a mix of sushi rice. I personally not a huge fan of it but worth a try.

Expensive but delicious! Absolutely love their aburi sushi!!

Make sure to call in for reservation. Gets busy and you might end up at the bar.

An extensive menu selection, very good quality, nice presentation, good service and ambience. Fairly busy during lunch time.

I can honestly say I had the best experience here. The sushi was GREAT! The seafood WOW WOW WOW
Andrea Goodwin Local Guide
We started with miso soup and tempura. The miso soup was delicious and what I loved most was that there were mushrooms in it. I believe this is the first time I have seen fresh mushrooms in my miso and I was elated. We had assorted tempura, and it came out hot and fresh. It came with broccoli, mushrooms, yams, asparagus, and shrimp. This was a great mixture and everyone at the table got to have their favorites. I would highly recommend this!

Everything tasted really good. Food was kinda bland, which was great cause I enjoy tasting the fish and not just the sauce. Cosy place, requires you to be cosy as well. Food is ordered at your table using one laminated menu and a felt pen, so if you are having lunch with a new friend might be a good way to get the conversion flowing. Our food came on a giant plate and we were given side plates. This encourages sharing and trading so don't bring a sick co-worker.

I go here regularly for lunch. The sushi is always fresh and they have a large selection and a dedicated gluten free menu that is celiac safe; however I did get sick (glutened) here once on some take out a few years ago. I think it was the soy sauce that they packed for me - it was labelled GF but I think it was swapped by mistake. Now I just bring my own GF soy sauce and haven't had any more issues!
They get pretty busy here during lunch hours so I recommend making a reservation. They do leave the counter open for walk-ins though and they always do their best to accommodate people without a reso.
The rolls average about ~$14/each and their fish is consistently top-shelf quality. All in all I highly recommend kabuku!

I was staying in a hotel downtown and needed to grab something quick for takeout so I decided to try Kabuku. I’m so glad I did! This is the best sushi I’ve ever had! So this time I decided to eat in the restaurant. The staff is extremely friendly, the atmosphere is very nice, and the food, once again, was exceptional! The music was not very loud, so you can carry out a conversation without having to scream. If you are staying in downtown and want to have sushi, I definitely recommend this place!

Best fish quality and service. I'm a regular as it's that good.

Great gluten free options! The largest gluten free menu I’ve seen at any sushi restaurant. I have celiac and am highly sensitive to any cross contamination. I didn’t have any issues here. The staff was knowledgeable and extremely helpful.

It's hard to find good sushi inland. My family and I love sushi, and Kabuku is the only place in Calgary to go. The service is always quick, and the presentation of the food is fantastic. Even off days for fish freshness still beats everywhere else you can go. It's a little more pricey than places like Globefish, however once you've tasted the quality, you will never want to go back.

You can not go wrong with this place. I came here two times the first time was in 2014 and the second time in 2017. The food and service were very good. Personally, If I have to choose, I will pick Koto over this place (only for better ambiance). I have to add that this place is on the expensive side as well.

My favorite place for sushi in downtown Calgary. If you like heat the Referee Stop is the roll for you. The ginger dressing on the green salad makes the salad a must have to start your meal. Service is always fast and friendly - but get a lunch reservation or plan on having a late lunch if you're interested in the lunch menu.

Let me start with the awesome customer service. Our server was great, he always checked on us more than twice and he was very respectful and kind. The place is clean but kind of hidden. Im giving it 4 stars because the food was a bit pricey.

The food was good, the atmosphere was pleasant and peaceful, the prices were decent, and the service was fantastic! I loved my experience here.

Great sushi in a cool restaurant.
I popped in here one evening for dinner with a coworker and it was delicious. The rolls here are delicious and very well prepared. Everything we were served was fresh and did not lack for an appealing plating. It can get a little pricy, so if you're short on money you might want to skip this one. The price is worth it though! The servers are all friendly and polite and are helpful if you're trying to determine portion sizing.
If you like sushi, you can't skip this place over.
Christina
The sushi here is great. Excellent quality & nice presentation. Decor is simple, but cute for a lunch time date. Definitely will be coming back here!
"Finding Kabuku”
Although it is hard to get a table at lunch sometimes, my experiences at kabuku are always positive. The service is always great and the presentation of both the sushi and the fusion dishes are always excellent. The pieces of fish are large and the selection is usually good. A wide variety of sake and asian beer is available. Go at dinner and beat the crowds.
Jenn N, Calgary
Kabuku's mission statement is "To maintain respect while consistently providing top quality food and service" - and I'd have to say they definitely honor this.
I've frequented this sushi place over the years and have always had a great experience - awesome fresh food, great atmosphere and service. My favorite appetizer is tied between the spicy scallops and prawns and the agedashi tofu. Their salmon sashimi is marbled perfectly and the volcano sauce used for the spicy tuna rolls is amazing!
With quality does come price - it is a bit expensive here, a lunch can run from $30-$40 easily. But I think it's nice to treat yourself every once in a while - especially when it comes to delicious food :)

This place is great, and conveniently located in downtown. I walked in after having a craving for sushi and was immediately greeted by the friendly staff and lovely ambience Kabuku has to offer. The staff were wonderful and my tai-out order was ready in a flash! I love the modern decor, it made me wish I had stayed to dine-in. I took my sushi to go and trained home and was pleasantly surprised with how fantastic and delicious it was. I'm not sure how busy this place is at lunch, but I'd love to make Kabuku a more regular occurrence. It seems pretty trendy and despite other reviewers, I didn't find the prices to bad. I think I'll definitely be back!
Best Sushi in Town!
Moved here from Vancouver and was searching all over for some good sushi. After being left disappointed by Globefish's high prices and so-so sushi and trying restaurants all over town, I went here on a colleague's recommendation & was wowed! The prices are so reasonable, the sushi is amazing and the service is attentive and pleasing. The best part is, the quality doesn't change if you get take-out instead of dine in. A definite must!

This would have been a 5 star, except the price. Wow, is it ever expensive there.
The hubs and I came here as we wanted to check out a new sushi place. And we figured being downtown Saturday afternoon it wouldn't that busy. Which it wasn't.
The sushi was fantastic. Nice thick white lines in the salmon and the miso soup has mushrooms it in. It was sooo good!!!
Great service, not busy, no crazy lines like some places. Parking can be a nightmare due to area, but that is ok.

Very good and fresh sushi!,.. This is definitely my favorite sushi place in Calgary!!.. As they fly the fresh fish everyday it is very very fresh!!.. Everything I have had there is just delicious!!.. I haven't found a better place for sushi at the city yet!!..
Tip: as it is sooooo good, it is always busy, I would recommend to call for reservations.. Or make the reservation online..

Very good sushi!
I love sushi and don't think I've given five stars to any other place in town. It's pricey but worth it. Well worth it!!

I'm always a big fan of solid service. And Kabuku service at this moment is solid. The staff is friendly and helpful. Two examples to highlight this:
Example #1, my colleagues and I are frequent travelers and when the host sees us walk in with all our coats and carry-on luggage, they offer to take them aside and hold it for us. That's service.
Example #2, we sit down, the waitress comes over hands us hot towels. She smiles, and we chit chat about the menu. She's happy to be there. We're happy to be there. Life is good.
The food is good, I think you're getting decent value for your buck here. And this place is vastly superior to the unmentionable place down the street from it.
Will go back on a regular basis to fix my fish cravings.

Really good place...the food, drinks and ambiance were all solid 9/10
sushi - really fresh and delish!
I tried some apps, scallops and shrimps it was pretty darn good.. the dumplings were one of the best i have had in a very long time! do not miss !
the staff was friendly and provided excellent service.

Positively amazing. Not only is the service perfect but the food is just impeccable. The appetizer, the entree and dessert were all equally as amazing as the previous course. Best sushi restaraunt I've been to so far.

This is a fabulous sushi place in downtown Calgary. I placed a to-go order here when I was working late at the University of Alberta Calgary Centre a block away, and was super impressed with my experience. Even though it was dinnertime (6pm) on a weekday, my food was ready in 10 minutes. When I got to the restaurant, the staff helped me immediately. It looked so nice inside I wished I could stay to dine in! My seafood sashimi dinner was amazing and reasonably priced. I know if I lived in Calgary I'd be stopping by Zen on a regular basis. Can't wait until my next visit!

The food was made with pride, and the owner is very connected with his customers.
I just liked that every dish that came out was clean, well presented, had great flavour, which is what i expect from Japanese food (made with pride).

BEST SUSHI EVER!
Hi! I have tried soooo many sushi restaurants in Calgary and this is BY FAR my favorite. The owner is always around and all the staff are super friendly. Great atmosphere and great plate presentation.
Amazing food! Felt like I was dining like a Queen :)
Pricey but good quality!
If you want a classy sushi dinner in downtown, I say "Kabuku"!
“Good Food -- Felt a Bit Rushed”
We were here for dinner on a Friday night. I had made a reservation, which was a good thing, as the restaurant was full. It is not a really big place, so with a big party going on, there weren't many tables left.
Given the recent snowfall, and the snow ban in effect -- it was a little hard to find parking on the street - but you can also park in the parkade of the Metropolitan Centre (right next door).
The food - including sashimi, sushi and tempura - was all very good -- flavourful and fresh. The Miso soup was very tasty, though the salad was a little boring - mostly a basic lettuce.
I would say that while the waitress was very polite -- she was not very helpful when we asked questions; and it felt like she was trying to rush us throughout our dinner. The soup and salad came within a minute of ordering, and then she kept coming by to take our empty plates -- but they weren't empty yet! A minor detail - but it did take away from the idea of a relaxing dinner.

I frequent Kabuku as much as I can over the past 2 years and have always been more than impressed. Very friendly staff that all know their stuff and genuinely care. A must to order is the Super Kara Rock Shrimp. All the rolls are incredible, Sockeye Salmon Sashimi very yum. Cold Sapporo!

We came at lunch around 1pm and they apparently were only taking reservations or we had to wait in line, but it was only a 10 minute wait. Solid balance between quality and portion size. Their fish tastes fresh. We ordered agedashi tofu and although good I prefer globefish better. Their rock shrimp was the best I've ever had, even better than nobu in NY! I think it's their volcano sauce which has a nice combination of creamy, salty, spicy, and sour. Their salmon cone was a great balance between rice and fish. Overall a great place downtown to have sushi during lunch or dinner. You kind of get a laugh out of the names of some of the sushi as well ..anyone else agree?
Tara M
I'm a fan of Zen. They have good service, great sushi and holy crap the salad dressing!
You know that Japanese salad dressing that comes on pretty much all the salads in pretty much all the sushi places in town? You know how it's really good? Zen seriously has taken this dressing and done some sort of magic to it making it heavenly. I never thought I would be so impressed with leaves and sauce, but Zen has made me a believer.
They are also exceptionally good at sushi. The fish is always fresh and succulent and the rolls vary from the normal California/spicy tuna/vegetable into Alberta rolls with smoked salmon, a yam tempura roll that is anything but ordinary and spider rolls that make you want to overeat.
Zen is a great place to grab a sushi boat before you head out (or after you are done) shopping in the core or to catch a bite and some sake after work; and because everything is so fresh and delicious, you won't feel bad stuffing yourself silly, leaning back in your chair and ordering just one more salad and spider roll.

We tried to have lunch here without a reservation...big mistake. There was absolutely no room. Because we were travelling, we were able to take advantage of the not so peak time of day and were given such great service! The food was excellent and the wait staff couldn't do enough for us. Yum!
"Fresh and Delicious”
Even the variety for non-sushi lovers is great. Their Yoko roll is to die for. The menu and the service have never let me down.
“Good service. Good Food” Jane Lacey
The service was friendly and polite. We had lunch and went back for dinner two days later. Most downtown restaurants are expensive. This one is also. It is very busy at lunch but dinner was a bit quieter if you go later on. The fish is fresh and nicely presented. Overall a good experience but be prepared this is not a cheaper restaurant.
“Very Good For Business Lunch” Kirk_and_Jo-Anne
A colleague took me here on a business lunch and the service was very fast friendly and efficient. The sushi seemed very fresh and the atmosphere was what you would expect from a downtown restaurant at lunch. All together a very good experience.

A friend of mine spent six months in Calgary, staying at the Westin across the street from Kabuku I understand that he was in here nearly every weekend and many week nights. So when he recommended that I give this place a try, I knew that it would be good. And he was right!
Interesting specials and well prepared "edible art", I had the toro sashimi special and the toro maki roll special. And when my tummy still had room, an order of the volcano chicken finished me off. All of it was absolutely excellent quality sushi and cooked food.
Draft Sapporo. Awesome!
Sadly, no wifi and the Starbucks across the street wasn't broadcasting.
You would never find this place if you didn't know it was here. They have a very plain entrance and not a lot of signage.

On this trip to Kabuku, I had an assortment of sashimi, spicy soup, and chocolate mousse. This place is consistently the best suishi place in Calgary. Its a little pricey by my Toronto standards.
I like the quirky decor - mostly traditional asian with a few standout north american pieces.
The server was great. She was quite chatty and offered good descriptions of the dessert menu.
Kristy H
Went there today with my bosses to say farewell - to me - because I'm moving to BC! Yay!
It's pretty easy to get a res. Try to book a few days early if you can. You can book online, which is super easy and efficient.
The place is usually pretty busy at lunch time and not too busy for dinner.
I love the sushi here. It's so fresh and tasty. They always are featuring a special which is nice. I love sushi places that mix things up and create new rolls. Today's was like a dynamite roll but it had some tasty spicy sauce on the outside with wasabi powder and crunchy tempura flakes. Yum!
Their sashimi is amazing. They have some really delicious items on their menu that cater to the non-sushi eater in your group (crazy non-sushi lovers!!!)
The service is always really good and very friendly.
I must admit their prices are a bit high for my liking but the quality of the food they serve well makes up for it.

Great Place! The service was cool, and the fish was fresh! What more could you ask for?
“Very good - I'll go back.”
I felt in the mood for sushi and this place was on my way home. I am happy that I stopped by. The kamikaze rolls were excellent and the ice cream dessert was yummy. I have been to upscale Japanese restaurants in Calgary (Towa) and prefer Kabuku for the price
"Like the set up"
Great Sushi, Japanese cuisine, but what I liked best is that you always get a private booth/room, with a curtain over the entrance. Top notch, excellent date location, or a place to discuss a business deal with at least the illusion of privacy if not the reality of it.
John L
Delicious little sushi bar downtown! I've taken groups and clients before, and we've always had a blast - very social and interactive meal.
"Fresh is the operative word"
By recommendation of the hotel concierge we walked over to Zen on 414 3rd Street SW in Calgary; a three minute walk from the Westin Calgary (downtown) hotel to the restaurant.
What a delightful surprise. With both booth and window seating options, this is a restaurant that one can feel fully comfortable casually dressed - we were. What were outstanding for us was the gracious Japanese service, and the quality and presentation of the dishes.
The Miso soup is now a benchmark for us; it was still light, but more flavourful and delicately enhanced with mushrooms and other fine Japanese ingredients. I enjoyed the seaweed salad - also light and delicious, and then proceeded with selecting a slow progression of assorted dishes from their menu. The scallops were sooooo fresh! The evening was terrific.
I am particularly aware of presentation, pride in work and ambiance. I give Zen a 10/10.
Thank you Tetsu and Carmen - a wonderful surprise!
Great Lunch Spot
Nice decor, and interesting menu. You are given a felt pen to check the items you wish to order from the lamenated menu. Two of us shared some gyoza, california roll, yam tempura, tamago & salmon sashimi. The price was fairly resonable, the quality was good and it was an all-round enjoyable lunch. Staff are quick so you can have a pretty fast lunch if need be.
Sean K
Has some wonderful sushi and creative rolls. The price however does lessen the value of what you get.
The sashimi is very good. Almost twice the price of other great sushi places but they also give you a little more. The pieces are huge.
The tempura shirmp is phenominal.

Glad I checked this restaurant!
Great atmosphere... cozy!
Great service...especially one 'tall' Chinese waitress along with the 'sushi' master!
Great sushi & sashimi!
BTW, I'd come back everytime while I'm here in Calgary, especially my favorite hotel is Westin just across the street!
My new favorite!
So as of last week, Globe Fish was my #1. After trying this, I have a new favorite.
Here's my favorites:
- Beef tataki (wish it came with more, but best I've had in Calgary)
- Yoko Roll (love the yam & crab with volcano and teriaki sauces)
- Volcano Roll (by far the best I've tried)
- Kamikazi Roll was to die for
- Shrimp tempura was excellent and the dip was really good with a nice lemon taste
Can't wait to try again!

HI,
I just wanted to thank the staff at Kabuku for the excellent and friendly service, great table, and outstanding food. The special birthday song and ice cream treat were a nice surprise! We all had a wonderful evening, and will be very happy to return to your restaurant.
Thank you, again.
Stick to the nirigi
Finally had a chance to visit this restaurant - and was hoping the bluefin tuna was still available - which it was! Since I was at Blowfish the week before and was greatly disappointed by their bluefin (it tasted just like red tuna), I was reluctant but still had to order it here. At $4.90 a piece, while that is expensive, I had to say it was worth it (better than $10.50/2 pieces at Blowfish). Kabuku's prices are on the steep side, but I have to say the nigiri was very good, while the rolls could be better. The temaki (hand cone) had a great proportion of rice and the seafood, and I didn't try the hot foods. I hope to go back there again soon and have more bluefin tuna!

I came in to Kabuku this evening with my wife and had such an excellent experience that I wanted to share it. Having only tried sushi a few times, we were unsure as to what we should order. ... was our server, she was knowledgeable and made several suggestions as to what we should eat and in what order. We stayed for about two hours, ordering each course individually and enjoying each course more and more! We especially loved the Super Kara prawns and when we were unsure of what to order for our last course, server recommended a roll that had those prawns in it. The atmosphere was great, the food was sensational, and our service could not have been better.
Thank you Kabuku! We will be back soon!
Paul S
A sushi lover's palace with the additional costs. Definitely not for the faint of heart. Kabuku offers a wide variety of selection and fantastic assortment of rolls, nigiri, and sashimi. It also is one of the few places in Calgary that is run entirely by traditional Japanese people which means your quality of sushi is top notch, but don't let the assortment or quality of food stop you. Though the food may be astounding, you will be paying dearly when you receive your tad. Nonetheless it is a place you would want to go to for fantastic sushi at least once a year. Maybe once every two years. 4 stars outta 5
Fantastic!
I never get to order an entree as I'm always ordering from the small eats menu. The gyzoa, shushi and tempura prawns are so yummy. Went there 3 times in 4 weeks and the waitress could remember each order and then knew our tastes to try something new. Will go back! Also not too pricey, quite reasonable.

Kabuku is the best Sushi restaurant in Calgary
My gf and I love Kabuku. Again, Kabuku is up there with Rush as far as classy meets food excellence and you have to expect to pay a little more for these kinds of experiences. The thing with sushi for us is that it has to be fresh. We know when we eat fresh sushi and when we don't. In a lot of sushi restaurants in this city, the fish is far from fresh and mediocre at best. Kabuku has never failed to impress us with the quality of the fish that is served and of course the attention given to presentation. The service is what you expect in such a restaurant; impeccable and always fast.No complaints here and will definitely go back
